About Radcliffe

Radcliffe is situated in the Irwell Valley, near the River Irwell, and is surrounded by a variety of green spaces, country parks and historical monuments, so there’s something for everyone. With close transport links to nearby Bury, Bolton and Manchester, there is something for everyone in the Radcliffe area.

Radcliffe Tower is one of the town’s most interesting historical attractions. Built in 1403 by the lord of the manor, it was demolished in the 19th century and now the tower is the only part that remains, and is a grade 1 listed area. In 2014, restorations and renovations were carried out with the support of Radcliffe’s local community to both the Radcliffe Tower and nearby St. Mary’s Church, as well as excavating the area around the tower. Radcliffe tower is an exciting project and is loved by the local community.

Radcliffe also has a variety of local green spaces, perfect for walking and spending time with friends and family in the beautiful countryside of the Irwell Valley. Close Park, just a mile from the town centre has a bowling green, outdoor gym, children’s play area, football pitches and tennis courts. You can also see a sculpture project created with Radcliffe’s local schools and sculptor Mark Jalland at Close Park, and it has maintained green flag status since 2004, marking it as one of the best maintained local parks in the country.

The Outwood Country Park and Trail just south of Radcliffe provides a beautiful window to the great outdoors, and shows off the countryside around Radcliffe in its best light. As one of the key locations on the Irwell Sculpture Trail, there’s also plenty to see and do on the trail.
